Someone remind me what is so bad about lotus evoras?
i think it straddles the line between day-to-day car and weekend car...
its toyota mechanics, so theoretically, it SHOULD be a 1/2 decent DD right?
![]() 11/29/2015 at 20:30 |

It is the REAL new NSX. But people don’t get it.
![]() 11/29/2015 at 20:31 |

I don’t think there’s really anything wrong with the car - I like the looks and the handling is, well, a Lotus, so it’s like a larger Elise, really. But I think $70,000 is a bit steep for something with a nasty interior when you could spend nearly $20k less on a Cayman if you just wanted a practical weekend car.
![]() 11/29/2015 at 20:33 |

Nothing?
![]() 11/29/2015 at 20:33 |
|
I just find it a little dated.
![]() 11/29/2015 at 20:38 |

well, a 2010 is going for around 50K can atm...might be something worth looking into later?
also, what cayman stays at 50K? by the time you finish adding any options you want, its a 75k car. (also, they want 160K for a fully loaded GT4 in canada. LOL)
![]() 11/29/2015 at 20:42 |

Nothing. It’s amazing and my wife’s next car. She is getting one and keeping her Camry as the “family”car.
![]() 11/29/2015 at 20:43 |

Nasty interior? It’s pretty nice for a Lotus.
![]() 11/29/2015 at 20:44 |

British build quality, not powered by a Cosworth engine, company’s always on the verge of going tits up.
![]() 11/29/2015 at 20:46 |
|
fuck the cosworth, with the yota i can get parts and its not going to fall apart (the engine at least)
![]() 11/29/2015 at 20:48 |
|
True that. My old Elise was the second most reliable car I’ve ever owned...behind my 08 Camry. And the Elise’s main issue was the aftermarket Cobra alarm system that came with the car from the factory. Close to 80k miles and no real issues. Can’t complain about that.
![]() 11/29/2015 at 20:49 |
|
You can get them in the mid 40’s with 20k miles and some haggling. I think (hope) prices go down once the 400’s get here.
![]() 11/29/2015 at 20:49 |
|
sounds like if I want one I need to go to the states.
![]() 11/29/2015 at 20:53 |
|
You can daily anything if you try hard enough and are willing to make some sacrifices. But weren’t these the ones where power windows were an option, or am I thinking of a different Lotus?
![]() 11/29/2015 at 20:55 |
|
your thinking of the exige/elise, which are more track cars.
this was a bit more of a grand tourer.
![]() 11/29/2015 at 20:57 |

All of the names begin with the same letter. So confusing.
![]() 11/29/2015 at 20:59 |

Its a lotus tradition XD.
“The name “Evora” keeps the
Lotus
tradition of beginning model names with an “E”. The name is derived from the words evolution, vogue, and aura.
[12]
Other names considered were
Eagle
,
Exira
and
Ethos
; Exira was rejected as it was considered not good enough and the other two because it would be difficult for Lotus to claim them as a trademark.
[2]
The name “Evora” sounds similar to
Évora
, which is the name of a Portuguese city and
UNESCO
World Heritage Site
, in
Portugal
.
“

You asked what’s wrong with it, so I gave you my answer, jeez.

How is being powered by something reliably and tht I can bolt a SC to no problem bad?
![]() 11/29/2015 at 21:04 |

TIL. That’s neat.
![]() 11/29/2015 at 21:05 |

Price.
![]() 11/29/2015 at 21:07 |

I know in canada they are stupid OP.
but apperently you can get thing in the states for 40K with 20K miles on them? According to someone elses comment..
![]() 11/29/2015 at 21:07 |
|
Hmm. I'm more of a new person.
![]() 11/29/2015 at 21:09 |
|
so one of like 3 people on oppo.
/me pulls out the clip board and puts on my shrink hat
so, why do you think you have this, buy new disease. XD
![]() 11/29/2015 at 21:15 |
|
I’ve read that early 2GR’s are prone to ovalling the bores in race conditions. Not sure if that affects the Evora though.
![]() 11/29/2015 at 21:15 |

I saw one of these in the Detroit area a couple weeks ago. I’m pretty sure it’s the only British car I saw the whole time I was there.
Anyways, seeing it reminded me that it existed and had me thinking exactly the same as you. I think they look great, the Toyota V6 is bulletproof, and it is a Lotus. I’m guessing the lack of dealer network and somewhat high MSRP kill it. Also lacks the rep of Porsche, so the guys who buy Porsche for the name aren’t likely to consider Lotus.
![]() 11/29/2015 at 21:16 |
|
I’ve tried to learn the logic behind this before and failed. Cool!
![]() 11/29/2015 at 21:16 |
|
well, its not like Lotus has a rep like toyota. they are a high class automaker.
![]() 11/29/2015 at 21:19 |
|
It’s a great idea.
![]() 11/29/2015 at 21:19 |
|
The value. $90-100K CAD, more or less, for a well optioned later model 2+2 even in the used market. Just give it a look on Autotrader.
![]() 11/29/2015 at 21:22 |
|
look at my last post. Lol’d hard
![]() 11/29/2015 at 21:24 |
|
Because it’s not a Ford Cosworth mill like Colin Bruce Chapman would have used.
![]() 11/29/2015 at 21:29 |
|
yea, and look what a great reliability rating HE got the company too
*gets telegram* WAIT this just in! He didnt.
![]() 11/29/2015 at 21:36 |

Nothing inherently wrong, aside from the asymmetrical aspect of the driveshafts causing a differential torque effect, but that is less pronounced with the rear wheels that aren’t steered, as opposed to FWD torque-steer.
The only issue is... for Porsche Cayman money, it isn’t a Porsche Cayman.
On the used market, if they go for less than a Cayman of similar year and miles, then that might be rectified.
The front fascia with the giddy emoticon smile is another downside, but not necessarily a deal breaker for everyone. The refreshed Evora 400 isn’t any better... but the S3 Exige shows that Lexus can design a cool front fascia.
Oh, and they all should have a black roof, rather than a body-colored “cap” look, and most of them should be Lotus Racing Green.
![]() 11/29/2015 at 21:49 |
|
They just don’t have the same mainstream recognition that a brand like Porsche has.
![]() 11/29/2015 at 21:57 |
|
also dont have the same main stream dentist/orthodontist rep either
![]() 11/29/2015 at 22:02 |
|
Lotus is pretty bad at paying suppliers for their stuff. Honda doesn't touch Lotus for this reason. Probably the same reason the 2ZZ isn't made anymore.
![]() 11/29/2015 at 22:07 |

the company yes. I’m talking about the car.

You must be super thrilled about them using Mercedes engines in F1 then, lmao

Team Lotus has nothing to do with Lotus, fyi.

lesson me oh great cookie monster
![]() 11/29/2015 at 22:41 |

I’d rather you ask me specific questions. For now I can tell you that they are the best cars I’ve ever driven AND!!!!!! the worst cars I’ve ever dealt with. To quote a couple customers, “they are beautiful pieces of shit!”
![]() 11/29/2015 at 22:46 |
|
I saw a higher km (I think it had 145,000kms on it) 2010 basemodel for sale for $40,000. It did not last long.
![]() 11/29/2015 at 22:47 |
|
hmm.
engine i’m assuming is good.
trans missions? IDK
electronics I’m assuming are bad.
what do they normally come in for?
![]() 11/29/2015 at 23:31 |
|
Engine perfect, some auto trans issues. A lot of manual trans issues. Electronics....worst in the history of cars. If you try to fix one thing, 80 bazillion other things fail. Common issues..... everything not engine related
Door locks
Alarm
Tail light assemblies
A lot if A/C compressor issues (because mid engine/front condenser and shitty lines)
Clutches
Window regulators
Cooling system ALL (except water pump)
ALL interior trim
ALL weather seals
Most of all, owners either not driving them at all causing issues (brake squeak, CEL’s, etc. for sitting too long)
Or
Driving them too hard in the streets*
*streets have curbs and potholes aka scratched wheels, sheild damage, boddy damage, glass broken
Inportant note, a lot or ALL of these issues are included in most Repair Orderes. It’s pretty rare having an Evora come in with only one complaint. While trying to solve these complaints, shit 100% not related to the repair breaks. Doing the typical radiator hoses (which are routed horrible like every fucking thing in the car) all of a sudden, the injector driver fails because LOTUS!!!!!!!
They are not handcrafted buy British engineers that have a passion for motorsport....hahahahah NOPE! Just a bunch of blokes building a car from an automotive recycle bin of shitty ass parts.
BUT!!!!!
If everything is good and you have an Evora S on fresh Michelins at an open track.... there is NO CAR on sale today that will drive better!!!! 100% fact goddammit! They are fucking beyond perfect, the BEST driving car in the market. Once we launch the 400, i’ll try to do an OPPO review. 400HP on that magical chassis is pure automotive bliss... when it’s not broken
![]() 11/29/2015 at 23:37 |
|
so basicly your saying: drive it, but dont beat on it, make sure everything gets throught it cycles, and it will be a dream?
worst case, if I get to fed up, rip everything out because racercar
![]() 11/30/2015 at 00:00 |
|
Oh you can drive it hard, but in the right environment (track). They can take a beating like a champ just like the V8 Vantage and be just fine. It’s a racecar unlike the Jaguar F-Type. Yeah I said it, that and the Alfa 4C are poser racecars to make enthusiasts all giggly on the street. *shots fired* fuck da F-Type and Alfa 4C
![]() 11/30/2015 at 00:07 |
|
I always thought the F-type was a GTer. not a racer car.
I’ take a V6 Ftype with a manual, in white. please and thank you.
![]() 11/30/2015 at 00:14 |

Evora has a back seat. We have a Jag dealer across the street and an Alfa dealer the next light over. They cross shop here
![]() 11/30/2015 at 00:15 |
|
is the back seat actually usable? I mean for those who age isnt in the single digits.
![]() 11/30/2015 at 00:17 |
|
Same as a DB9 and SC430 lol. Though, if you’ve ever owned a 2 seater car, having the rear space comes in handy
![]() 11/30/2015 at 00:26 |
|
Hey man, that VW has comfortline in it’s name. I bet it’s comfortable!
But in all seriousness, at <$70K it’s hard to beat a W204 C63. I can vouch for them being popular in a city with many universities. (And Toronto because... Toronto).
![]() 11/30/2015 at 00:28 |
|
okay, the 2 vehicles I have ever had were that 2000s saab 93 which had a god-dam cave for a trunk and lounge for a back seat, and a motorcycle which was a 1 foot by 6inch piece of plastic wrapped in foam.
![]() 11/30/2015 at 00:28 |

your in TO?! WTF?! how come you never came by to meet me and Cletus44?!?!

lol there ya go :]
![]() 11/30/2015 at 11:58 |
|
It was more of a playful comment than anything else, but yeah I'm aware
![]() 11/30/2015 at 20:52 |
|
True. But that just means you can get a well-equipped Porsche for the price of a new base Evora, and to my eye, the Porsche looks better and has a much prettier interior.
![]() 11/30/2015 at 20:54 |
|
Yeah, for a Lotus. The Elise and Evora do not have pretty interiors, at least to my eye. I love the Cayman’s interior, especially that lovely wheel. No nonsense, but also none of those stupid Carrera GT-style growths where spokes should be.
